Prayer for a Lost Mitten - Jean-François Lesage

Synopsis

This film is an exploration of the unsuspected world of insects and their relationship to the rest of the living world (including humans). Neither a purely scientific document, nor simply made up of anecdotes and curiosities, the aim is to create a narrative based on subjects associated with insects. The story is sometimes dramatic, sometimes comic. The aim is to raise public awareness of the collapse of insect biodiversity. Neither a didactic documentary nor a formalist work, the story unfolds through detailed video footage of insects. A telescoping on a scale too small for the eye, to reveal the invisible and the unsuspected.

Synopsis

Passionate about living heritage and navigation on the St. Lawrence, Kevin Gagné and Raymond Lachance build the most beautiful dream machine of all: a gleaming ice canoe. Inspired by the importance of passing on a rich culture and endangered know-how, their boatyard ignites the spark of rediscovered knowledge and memory from one generation to the next. The better to pass on to their children, grandchildren and an entire community.

A river in winter - Félix Lamarche

Synopsis
Gérard and Catherine sacrificed family, friends and their homeland of Belgium for a life of self-sufficiency deep in the boreal forest of Gaspé Peninsula, Québec. Now fifteen years later, as their three sons become young adults, what will happen to this remarkable life they’ve given everything to create? What makes the intense demands and sacrifices of this life worth it? What does it mean to truly appreciate and live with nature? And what can we learn from this inspiring family? The Family of the Forest ponders these questions with a poetic sensitivity while joining the Jacob-Mathar family at a pivotal time: as Côme, Ossyane, and Jonas emerge into adulthood. Gérard and Catherine complete an ambitious plan to keep sons close to family and forest.
