Doc at Risk

The project awarded the Doc à Risque is On the edge of oblivion by Oona Barrett and Léa Kratchanov.

This feature-length documentary project deals with the Rohingya identity and its survival after the genocide that forced over 700,000 members of this community to flee Myanmar to neighboring Bangladesh. Seven years after the exile, with instability in Myanmar reducing the possibility of return, nearly a million Rohingya remain trapped in the world’s largest refugee camp. The film shows how, even sheltered from the Burmese army, precarious living conditions in the camp and a lack of future prospects continue to threaten this forgotten minority.

A new colorization room at PRIM

Our colorist Marianne Lévesque in the new PRIM colorization room.

Dear designers and partners,

This summer, while the Prim Center took a short break, we had the opportunity to transform our spaces and prepare a surprise that we can’t wait to unveil to you: a brand-new colorization room, ready to bring your projects to life!

A New Colorization Room: Accessible and Efficient

Our new colorization room is designed to make this essential service both more accessible and more affordable.
With a reduced rate for this room, we aim to offer an ideal solution for smaller budget projects without compromising on quality.
This change is part of our drive to diversify the types of projects we can take on, and so support a wider range of creators.

Quality equipment for dazzling results

Rest assured, even with these reduced rates, we’ve left nothing to chance.
Our new room is equipped with a large-screen TV calibrated like all our projectors, ensuring impeccable color accuracy.
We’ve invested in top-quality equipment to ensure that your creations always live up to your expectations.

We’re ready to welcome you!

We’re really looking forward to introducing you to this new space, and to seeing your projects come to life in our newly refurbished hall.
Whether you have a grand idea or a more modest project, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Don’t hesitate to contact us for more information or to book your next session.
Thank you for being part of our creative adventure, and see you soon at Centre Prim!

With enthusiasm,

The Centre Prim team

DOLBY ATMOS THEATRICAL CINEMA CERTIFICATION

We are excited to announce excellent news: PRIM’s cinema mixing studio is now officially certified Dolby Atmos Theatrical Cinema! This certification marks a major step forward in our sound mixing services and opens up new perspectives for sound creation.

THE DOLBY ATMOS FORMAT
Dolby Atmos is a three-dimensional audio format designed for movies and music, delivering an immersive sound experience through sound and speaker elevation concepts.

In the traditional surround sound system, the loudspeakers are grouped by zones according to the size of the room, and the sound information is distributed only by zones. While it already offered an immersive environment, it was still a bit blurry.

With Dolby Atmos, each loudspeaker becomes an individual distribution point, receiving its own audio signal. This allows optimal diffusion of sound objects, providing unparalleled precision to the listener. Now we have complete control over where sounds come from and move, delivering a cohesive and immersive experience whether in a Dolby Atmos-equipped movie theater or other traditional surround formats.

When broadcasting a film in DCP (Digital Cinema Package), traditionally equipped theaters can use the same DCP as theaters equipped with Dolby Atmos technology. This facilitates the distribution of projects in Dolby Atmos and makes it possible to reach a wider audience.

To be able to distribute a project in Dolby Atmos, both the mixing room and the projection room must be certified by Dolby experts, thus guaranteeing compliance with configuration standards.

DOLBY ATMOS LICENSE FOR INDEPENDENT PROJECTS
A Non-Commercial license is available free of charge for projects meeting the following criteria:

  • Distribution in less than 50 US theaters
  • Non-Commercial distribution (festivals)
  • Productions intended for archiving
  • Event cinema (projection of performances such as concerts, ballets, theater, etc.)

Tam Khoa Vu is the recipient of the PRIM | MAI 2022-2023 residency!

Tam Khoa Vu is the recipient of the PRIM | MAI 2022-2023 residency!

Congratulations to

Tam Khoa Vu,
recipient of the PRIM | MAI residency

The PRIM and MAI teams are pleased to announc Tam Khoa Vu as the recipient of the joint PRIM | MAI 2022-2023 residency program for his project My Country, Their Water (2023).

PRIM and the MAI (Montreal, arts interculturels) have partnered to offer a long-term joint residency and mentorship to an artist that wishes to experiment, develop their skills, and create a media-based artwork. PRIM will offer its filming equipment and facilities to the artist for the production of a work in video art, documentary, fiction, or audio art. Tam Khoa Vu will have the opportunity to present their completed work in the spaces at the MAI as part of the official programming of the 23-24 season. The MAI defends and supports the development, creation, presentation and promotion of intercultural arts (hybrid arts resulting from an amalgam of forms, genres, styles, disciplines and languages) intended for various audiences.

Tam Khoa Vu is an artist based in Tio’Tia:Ke / Montreal, QC With a background in design and a bachelor’s in Design and Computation Arts from Concordia University (BFA 2017); his work challenges common representations and depictions of Vietnamese and Vietnamese-Canadian identity, while playfully opening up spaces of abundance, possibility, and nuance. Using various visual and digital art forms, his practice explores themes of production, manufacturing, power, representation, and identity by exploring the nuances of the “third space” of the diasporic experience between Vietnam and Canada.

Notable presentations of the artist’s works include MAI – Justice Project (2022), Montreal, QC (2022); ARTCH Emerging Artists Exhibition, Montreal, QC (2021), Eastern Bloc, Montreal, QC (2016). He has received grants from funding bodies and institutions such as OBORO (2022), Conseil des arts et des Lettres du Québec (2022, 2021), and the MAI (2022).

This project is produced with support from the Government of Quebec and the City of Montreal as part of l’Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal, and from the Canada Council for the Arts
