Prayer for a Lost Mitten - Jean-François Lesage

Synopsis

After a harrowing journey, women from Nigeria arrive alone and increasingly young in Italy in search of a better life.
From human trafficking to the sexual slavery that awaits them, this choral film offers poignant accounts whose modesty spares us the unbearable.
These stories of welcome lead to a broader reflection on migration and otherness, that true encounter with the Other.

Prayer for a Lost Mitten - Jean-François Lesage

Synopsis

After crossing 11 countries illegally, Peggy, Simon and their three children await the hearing that will determine whether they will be accepted as refugees in Canada.
Having fled political repression in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the family is trying to rebuild its life in Montreal, in the comfort of a daily life weakened by the omnipresent threat of having to leave.
Between ghosts of the past, hopes for the future and legal mazes, the film plunges into the heart of the Nkunga Mbala family’s struggle to stay in Canada.
Offering unprecedented access to their hearing before the Immigration and Refugee Board, the film lifts the veil on the complex process of claiming asylum in Canada.

Oil spill is a cry from the species, a surge of survival in the face of the elements.
A last breath of life before being swept away by the Earth, or perhaps conversely, a fight to hold on against all odds before extinction.
A poignant film directed by the Quebec choreographer
Chantal Caron with the St. Lawrence River as a backdrop.

Prayer for a Lost Mitten - Jean-François Lesage

Synopsis

Since 2010, Parthenais has been home to an entire queer community.
They are gay, lesbian, trans and live together in the Centre-Sud district in the heart of Montreal, in a triplex that is falling into disrepair.
Between parties that sometimes welcome over two hundred people until the wee hours of the morning, collective suppers, great joys and small despairs, this old apartment has transformed the lives of its tenants.
Twelve years later, the building was bought by a wealthy family who wanted to live there, as gentrification was the order of the day.
It’s the end of a mythical space that transformed a decade of Montreal’s queer scene.
The boxes are too small to contain all the stories that took place within these walls.
ÉVICTION is the story of this page turning, as distraught residents look for a new place to call home in the midst of a housing crisis and land speculation.
