A river in winter - Félix Lamarche

Synopsis
Gérard and Catherine sacrificed family, friends and their homeland of Belgium for a life of self-sufficiency deep in the boreal forest of Gaspé Peninsula, Québec. Now fifteen years later, as their three sons become young adults, what will happen to this remarkable life they’ve given everything to create? What makes the intense demands and sacrifices of this life worth it? What does it mean to truly appreciate and live with nature? And what can we learn from this inspiring family? The Family of the Forest ponders these questions with a poetic sensitivity while joining the Jacob-Mathar family at a pivotal time: as Côme, Ossyane, and Jonas emerge into adulthood. Gérard and Catherine complete an ambitious plan to keep sons close to family and forest.

A river in winter - Félix Lamarche

Synopsis
We often contemplate it, but do we really know it? Filmmaker Félix Lamarche (Terres fantômes, RIDM 2019) invites us to rediscover the St. Lawrence River in the heart of winter. To do so, he embarks on the Amundsen, a Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker, and travels through the icy expanses while interviewing scientists who share their passion. Between the contemplative observation of the majestic movements of the ice floes and the microscopic observation of the fascinating creatures that live there, this documentary takes the form of a visual and spiritual journey. Between the infinitely large and the infinitely small, the film leads us to meditate on our ignorance while marveling at the unfathomable mysteries of life and the underwater world. Sisters: dream and variations

Synopsis
Tyr and Jasa grew up in an artistic environment where creation was a way of life, and adulthood has made them original and passionate sisters. Tyr is now a musician and singer while Jasa is an interdisciplinary artist. Inspired by recordings of Icelandic folk songs performed by their great-grandmother, their artistic practices draw on both their colorful imaginations and their family roots. This led them to undertake their first trip to Iceland, to collaborate on a project that combines their artistic disciplines and cultural heritage. With her first feature film, Catherine Legault plunges us into a dreamlike world of animation, performance and cinéma-vérité. More than a simple portrait, the film takes an inspiring look at the artistic process of two sisters whose manifestations are so many variations on self-affirmation, fantasy and dreams.
