Prayer for a Lost Mitten - Jean-François Lesage

Synopsis

Away from the world, in a cobbled-together shack, Martin’s life is organized. Surrounded by a forest of spruce trees and scraps of metal, this indomitable loner patches together a new existence with his pack of cats. The disappearance of Junior, one of his felines, upsets his daily routine and brings back memories of the past.

Composed of fragments of life and fragile confessions, DES CHATS SAUVAGES plunges us into a territory and human nature of harsh beauty. Guided by a cinema of almost total incursion, the film explores themes of mourning and emancipation, while questioning our relationship with marginality.

Prayer for a Lost Mitten - Jean-François Lesage

Synopsis

A look into the intimate world of Laurence Philomène, a young non-binary transgender photographer, as she prepares her first book, Puberty, a series of self-portraits documenting her transition during hormone therapy.
Reflecting Philomène’s autobiographical approach, LARRY (they/them) highlights the cinematic power of the artist’s vibrant, color-saturated images and, above all, her willingness to share her story with authenticity and vulnerability.
Gender non-conforming identities, bodily diversity and the challenges of self-assertion are also explored through an exclusive foray into Philomène’s family and community.
Beyond the story of individual transformation, the film chronicles a society that is also in transition, evolving as it grows.
A celebration of those who refuse to conform, LARRY (they/them) is a luminous and engaging portrait of the complex and often misunderstood multiplicity of trans and non-binary identities and experiences, bringing to the screen one of the most inspiring and original voices of her generation and an icon of the LGBTQ+ community.

Prayer for a Lost Mitten - Jean-François Lesage

Synopsis
An overworked French-speaking Quebecer, on his knees like many others in our time, sets off on a road trip to some of Quebec’s First Nations communities in search of meaning, healing and another way of reading the world.
He tries to see what has been done in his name, with the intuition that through these people, he will better understand what is happening to him.

Based on testimonies gathered in various First Nations and Inuit communities of Quebec, La cartomancie du territoire questions the relationship Quebecers have with native reserves and natural reserves, with the colonization of territory and thought.
