5 ECO-RESPONSIBLE INITIATIVES

Post-production can be costly for the environment, but PRIM’s offering helps reduce this impact. Here are five initiatives we’ve taken to reduce our impact.
1. OUR TECHNICAL MEETINGS
Essential for your ptojects workflow, these meetings take place before production. They strengthen your preparation, help you choose the right resources for your shoot, and ease the post-production. Using fewer resources means more savings and a reduced environmental impact. Depending on your broadcast type, filming location, and equipment, our team will advise you on the optimal use of resources.
2. ECOLOGICAL INFRASTRUCTURE
Since 2011, we have been heating and cooling using our geothermal system: a renewable, sustainable, and easy-to-maintain energy source. In Quebec, the ground temperature just a few meters below the ground remains stable at around 8°C year-round, making it an ideal energy source for heating and cooling. We also opted for a white roof, which reflects heat rather than absorbing it. This addition also extends the roof’s lifespan compared to traditional black roofs.
3. LOCATION ACCESSIBLE BY PUBLIC TRANSIT
Getting to PRIM is easy. The Frontenac metro station is less than a 10-minute walk away. Our parking lot includes five spaces reserved for Communauto vehicles. For cyclists, our center is located just below the Fullum bike path. Several BIXI stations are also nearby, including one halfway up the hill, less than a three-minute walk away. And of course, you can also just walk to get here.
4. WASTE MANAGEMENT
Of course, we sort our household waste: garbage, recycling, and compost. As a non-profit organization, every resource counts. That’s why we take care of our equipment. When it’s no longer functional, we recycle it responsibly with the Electronic Recycling Association. If you have electronic equipment, we also offer a drop-off center for it.
5. DATA MANAGEMENT
Did you know that data represents an average of 60% of the energy consumed during the post-production process? To reduce this consumption, we ensure efficient file management. Whether by organizing them, selecting the appropriate media, or archiving them, we do our best to reduce their energy impact.

With the environmental reach of many of our members’ projects, PRIM strives to practice and encourage responsible practices. We promote eco-responsible practices at every stage of creation and encourage collaboration with organizations such as On tourne vert and other local groups committed to the ecological transition.
